SPIRITUAL MEDIOCRITY

Divine Appeal Reflection - 192

Today, consider in Divine Appeal 192:  "Tell souls that they have to take advantage to renew their lives before it is too late. I am appealing to them all. I need them to lift up their souls from the mire and to leave their mediocrity.”

Our Adorable Jesus, in His Divine Appeal, tenderly yet urgently invites every soul to awaken from the slumber of spiritual mediocrity. His sincere plea is a heavenly invitation to abandon complacency and embrace the transformative grace that leads to eternal life. The call to renewal is not merely a suggestion but a divine urging to seize the present moment, as it holds the grace necessary for conversion (cf. 2 Corinthians 6:2). This appeal challenges us to act swiftly, for the opportunity for repentance and spiritual renewal is a sacred gift that may not be available indefinitely.

Spiritual mediocrity manifests as lukewarmness, a state where the soul becomes indifferent to the profound love and mercy of Our Adorable Jesus. It dulls the heart, making it resistant to the fervor and zeal that true faith inspires. Jesus longs for hearts that are fully alive, burning with love, and eager to grow in holiness (cf. Revelation 3:15-16). This call to fervency invites us to reignite our faith through sincere prayer, active participation in the sacraments, and living lives anchored in charity and humility.

Rising from spiritual stagnation involves freeing our hearts from the grip of sin and detaching from worldly distractions. It demands humility to recognize our weaknesses and to place our trust entirely in the boundless mercy of Our Adorable Jesus. When we shift our focus from earthly concerns to heavenly realities (cf. Colossians 3:2), we open our hearts to the sanctifying grace that renews and transforms us. True renewal is a continuous journey of daily conversion, where each moment becomes an opportunity to grow closer to Jesus through acts of virtue and repentance.

Time is a precious, fragile gift, and the Divine Appeal of Jesus solemnly reminds us that it is not without end. Like the wise virgins who kept their lamps burning while awaiting the bridegroom (cf. Matthew 25:1-13), we are called to vigilance and readiness. The oil of grace cannot be borrowed at the final hour; it must be cultivated daily through a life lived in the light of Christ. Let us not postpone the call to holiness. Now is the time to rise from the lethargy of mediocrity, to renew our lives with fervent zeal, and to respond with love to the One who tirelessly appeals to our hearts.

Prayer

Oh our Adorable Jesus, awaken our hearts from spiritual mediocrity. Lift our souls from the mire of sin and renew us with Your grace. Grant us the courage to respond to Your divine appeal with fervent love, true repentance, and unwavering faith. Jesus, we trust in You.

Sr. Anna Ali of the Most Holy Eucharist, intercede for us.
