Divine Appeal Reflection - 166
Today, consider in Divine Appeal 166: "My grief is for the many souls consecrated to Me who always leave Me deserted and they never believe in My presence in the Eucharist. All nameless abominations are committed against Me in the lonely days and long hours of thirst. I remain all alone before the altars. "
Our Adorable Jesus reveals the depth of His suffering in the Blessed Sacrament through these mournful words. His Sacred Presence, which is supposed to be a source of compassion, mercy, and healing (cf CCC 1391), is instead subjected to acts of contempt, negligence, and blatant sacrilege. These “nameless abominations” are not always grand offenses but often the subtle, everyday indifference and faithlessness of humanity. Each moment of abandonment, every lack of belief, is a wound to His Sacred Heart, which longs to be known, loved, and adored. Our Adorable Jesus remains a silent witness to these offenses, enduring them with infinite patience and love.
The loneliness of Jesus in the Eucharist reflects His unquenched thirst for souls. He waits, day and night, in the tabernacle, longing for the faithful to keep Him company (cf. Matthew 26:40). Yet, He is left alone, not just physically but also spiritually, as many fail to approach Him with reverence and faith. This abandonment by His consecrated souls and lay faithful alike intensifies His grief. His Sacred Heart burns with a desire to pour out graces upon those who come to Him, but instead, He finds Himself ignored, His presence dismissed as a mere symbol by those who should know Him best.
The “nameless abominations” that wound our Adorable Jesus can be understood as sins of both omission and commission against His Eucharistic Presence. Irreverence manifests in casual behavior within the church, receiving Holy Communion without proper preparation, or neglecting to show outward signs of adoration. Sacrilege arises when the Eucharist is received in a state of mortal sin or desecrated in any form. Indifference—perhaps the most painful of all—treats His presence as an obligation rather than a privilege, failing to appreciate the gift of His love. These acts, great and small, pierce His Sacred Heart, which hungers for a response of faith and devotion (cf. Psalm 42:2).
Our Adorable Jesus endures “long hours of thirst,” not for water, but for the love and companionship of souls (cf. John 19:28). Every hour spent in His presence, every act of love given to Him, serves to comfort His Sacred Heart's loneliness. Let us respond to His appeal by coming close to Him in the Eucharist, offering our prayers and sacrifices to lessen His pain and make amends for the disregard done against Him. May we never stop adoring, loving, and believing in our Eucharistic Lord.
Prayer
Adorable Jesus, in Your Eucharistic presence, we offer our love and reparation for the offenses and abominations committed against You. In Your lonely hours of thirst, may our devotion console Your Sacred Heart. Strengthen our faith, deepen our reverence, and draw all souls to adore You in the Blessed Sacrament.
Sr. Anna Ali of the Most Holy Eucharist, intercede for us.
