FIRES OF SIN IN THE MODERN WORLD

Divine Appeal Reflection - 152

Today, consider in Divine Appeal 152: "Small fires have been lit everywhere like contagious plagues which inundate souls and inflames them to everything. The great blasphemies have covered My figure and My heart bleeds from pain."

The word "contagious plagues" in Divine Appeal 152 aptly describes the gradual growth of immorality in our modern environment. Sin, like small fire, frequently starts unnoticed but spreads swiftly, consuming individuals, families, and civilizations in its devastating flames. Today, we see a wide range of doctrines and activities that violate holy rule, leading souls astray from the path of purity. These "small fires" can be seen in the denial of God's sovereignty, the distortion of truth, and the pursuit of self-centered wants, all of which lead us away from our Adorable Jesus' loving embrace.

One of the most deadly fires is a widespread rejection of the sovereignty of God. In today's secularized world, there is a tendency to eliminate God from public life and decision-making, encouraging a culture of independence and pride. This denial of God as Creator and Lord leaves souls spiritually empty and vulnerable to despair. Scripture reminds us that all creation exists through and for Christ, and in Him, everything is held together (cf. Colossians 1:16-17). When humanity rejects this truth, it succumbs to chaos and moral disarray, further fueling the fire of sin. Our Adorable Jesus, whose heart bleeds from these blasphemies, longs to draw us back to the peace that only He can give.

Another widespread fire is the distortion of truth, which leads innumerable lives astray. Moral relativism has spread in a world that views reality as subjective, denying the presence of absolute truths found only in God (cf. John 14:6). This distortion has led to uncertainty regarding fundamental facts such as the sanctity of life, the essence of marriage, and the dignity of the human being. Relativism blinds souls to the light of Christ and makes them susceptible to sin. Yet, our Adorable Jesus stands as the unchanging Truth, calling His children to reject the lies of the world and embrace the life-giving clarity of His teachings.

Finally, the pursuit of self-centered desires-manifested in materialism and hedonism-acts as fuel for the fires of sin. In the relentless chase for wealth, pleasure, and power, many prioritize fleeting earthly treasures over eternal communion with God. As Scripture warns, those who worship created things instead of the Creator lose sight of their ultimate purpose (cf. Romans 1:25). These distractions harden hearts and make them resistant to divine grace. Nevertheless, our Adorable Jesus offers hope. Through prayer, repentance, and a return to His loving arms, souls can extinguish these fires and rediscover the peace and joy that come from living in union with Him. May we remain vigilant against the spread of sin, trusting in the mercy of our Adorable Jesus to guide us back to holiness.

Prayer

Our Adorable Jesus, cleanse our hearts from the fires of sin and restore Your truth in our lives. Extinguish the plagues of evil in the world, and inflame our souls with unwavering love for You. May Your mercy transform every heart and lead us to the path of holiness.

Sr. Anna Ali of the Most Holy Eucharist, intercede for us.
