HONORING THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE

Divine Appeal Reflection - 136

Today, consider in Divine Appeal 136:  "My Heart is bleeding for the marriages in which My Sacrament has been suppressed. Too many insults and abuses. I have no rest in the prison of My tabernacle yet I do not want anyone to perish"

In the sacrament of marriage, couples are called to participate in a holy covenant—a promise made before God to love, cherish, and support each other as Christ loves His Church (Ephesians 5:25). As the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1601) reminds us, marriage is not merely a social contract but a sacred institution raised to the dignity of a sacrament by Christ Himself. When the sacramental nature of marriage is disregarded or “suppressed,” the couple and the family suffer deeply, losing the grace and unity that our Adorable Jesus intended for them.

In His Divine Appeal, Jesus points to the wounds inflicted upon His Heart by the increasing disharmony, neglect, and disrespect within marriages. When He says, “My Heart is bleeding for the marriages in which My Sacrament has been suppressed,” our Adorable Jesus expresses a profound sorrow for the way marital love has been compromised by selfishness, misunderstandings, and the lack of forgiveness. Jesus endures this pain in silence, waiting lovingly in the tabernacle, hoping that each married couple will seek His strength to restore their relationship and rediscover the sacramental grace they received at their wedding.

Jesus warns that the suppression of the sacrament results in serious spiritual wounds, not only to the individuals within the marriage but to the children and society at large. This suppression, marked by insults, abuses, and betrayals, allows bitterness, pride, and resentment to take root. It also leaves the marriage unguarded against temptations and trials. When our Adorable Jesus describes His Heart as bleeding, He reveals the spiritual tragedy of allowing marriage—designed as a living symbol of His love—to falter. His sorrowful Heart calls us to recognize that every act of unkindness and neglect within marriage not only impacts the couple but also grieves Him deeply.

In this appeal, our Adorable Jesus does not simply express sorrow but invites married couples to actively seek His grace to heal and renew their bond. His message is a call to rediscover the sacrament’s true purpose: to mirror His divine love. Jesus longs for couples to live out their marriage with commitment, humility, and forgiveness, drawing strength from Him through prayer, the sacraments, and a deepened respect for each other.

In this Divine Appeal, Jesus opens His Heart, showing us His sorrow and inviting married couples to return to the grace of their sacrament. He desires that each couple finds their strength and joy in Him, becoming true witnesses of love and unity. Through the loving call of our Adorable Jesus, may all couples find the courage to renew their devotion to each other, bringing healing to their families and consoling the Heart of Christ.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, our Adorable Savior, pour Your healing love into every wounded marriage. Restore unity, love, and forgiveness in all families. Help each couple cherish the sacrament of marriage, reflecting Your divine love always.

Sr. Anna Ali of the Most Holy Eucharist, intercede for us.
