LIVING OUT THE EUCHARISTIC MYSTERY

Divine Appeal Reflection  - 101

Today, consider in Divine Appeal 101: "In Holy Communion I gave all of Myself to souls that they may take Me. I am always seeking for souls."

The most precious gift a soul can ever possess is Jesus Himself in the Holy Eucharist, especially when a worthy reception is made in the state of grace. This intimate bonding with the Lord points to the climax of the Christian life, wherein one is drawn into the closest fellowship with the Redeemer. This is a sacred instant that brings the divine down to the earthly realm and makes us feel Jesus’ embrace in fullness. When we receive the sacrament of Holy Communion, we become the walking tabernacles of Christ in a society filled with the sins and vices of this fallen world. This truth should permeate our existence, turning us into living testaments of the presence of Christ. Our actions and speech, then, and even our thoughts must be that of Our Adorable Jesus, Who resides in our hearts. In this way, we advance His love, mercy, and truth in this dark world that so desperately longs for His light.

The call for holiness of life and for constant conversion is a valuable part of receiving the Eucharistic mystery. It entails owning up to the sins committed, receiving the Sacrament of Penance, and then working towards the transformation of a sinner into a saint, following the virtue of Christ. As a result, we become more than just aware of Jesus' presence in the Eucharist; we also gain the capacity to spread this love to others as we mature as His faithful friends. We therefore must partake of the Holy Eucharist as often as possible to be continuously sanctified by this heavenly presence. The center and essence of our Christian life is the Holy Mass because it is through the Scriptures and the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist that we come to know and experience Our Adorable Jesus. Frequent attendance at the Holy Mass increases our spirituality and grants us an opportunity to become holy through our closeness with our merciful Jesus.

The childlike faith of those who are committed to the Eucharist makes it clear that sanctity is possible in this world regardless of anyone’s status. Sr. Anna Ali, born in a family based in the Muslim faith, is an example of this truth since she was passionately devoted to the Eucharist. Her outstanding devotion to the Blessed Sacrament helped her to remain faithful to the love of Our Adorable Jesus in the Eucharist till her last breath, which proves that our holiness depends on our union with Christ in the blessed sacrament. As such, we learn from her that the simplest things we do in our everyday lives when performed with love and humility are actually powerful showings and manifestations of our faith.
