GUARDING THE TONGUE

Divine Appeal Reflection  - 109

Today, consider in Divine Appeal 109: "Many words pierce Me from My own... Because of all this My Eternal Father’s anger is cast down on this world."

Sins of the tongue are considered serious transgressions in the Catholic faith that have the potential to destroy trust and damage relationships. Lying, slander, and detraction are characterized as specially evil because they deform truth, defame individuals, and offend human dignity. Rash judgment and the betrayal of confidences also disrupt harmony and fail to uphold the Christian virtues of charity and justice. When unchecked, our speech can give rise to gossip, division, and emotional pain, impeding our spiritual journey towards holiness and distancing us from the grace of God.

Understanding this, souls are called to practice mindfulness and exercise self-discipline in their speech. It is our duty to use our words to uplift others and glorify God. When we give Our Adorable Jesus command over our speech, we submit to His authority over our existence and make an effort to speak in a way that is consistent with His will. Through conscientious discipline and guidance in prayer, we strive to cultivate speech that embodies the virtues of truth, charity, and humility. In doing so, we contribute to the formation of a community founded on love and peace.

Sister Anna Ali, renowned for her thoughtful and measured speech, epitomizes the virtue of guarded communication. Her life serves as a testament to the profound impact of restraint and prudence in speech, inspiring others to draw nearer to God. Let us continue to seek Sister Anna Ali's intercession and endeavor to emulate her example in guarding our tongues. May our words always serve to glorify God and build up our neighbors in faith and virtue. Through prayerful reflection and participation in the sacraments, may we align our words and actions with the teachings of Christ, fostering reconciliation and promoting goodness in our daily lives.
