DIVINE APPEAL REFLECTION - 71

Pray for World's Scandals

Today, consider in Divine Appeal 71: "Listen to My Voice of mercy and love for mankind. Pray more for the scandals of this world". Jesus' call to "pray more for the scandals of this world" reveals his awareness of humanity's tendency toward moral failure and social decay. Scripture encourages us to engage in intercessory prayer for the common good and for a change of heart. In Matthew 26:41, Jesus guides his disciples to understand the spiritual warfare of the world and to watch and pray so as not to enter into temptation. In Matthew 9:13, Jesus emphasizes the value of having empathy and understanding for other people by declaring, "I desire mercy, and not sacrifice." St. Teresa of Calcutta sacrificed her life to help those in need, filled with Christ's compassion and love despite human suffering. She aimed to improve the conditions of the oppressed and promote social change through his fervent prayers and charitable deeds. Let us, therefore, strive to live his message of mercy, love, and prayer in our daily lives through personal prayers, seeking direction from the Holy Spirit on ways in which we can actively participate in resolving the scandals of our society and promoting the change we want to see. Through participating in the sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation, let us renew our spiritual life and strengthen our relationship with Christ's love and mercy. Being continuously open to personal conversion and spiritual growth, let us acknowledge our need for ongoing transformation and do so humbly. We can accomplish this by living in accordance with the teachings of Christ and the principles of the gospel through our deeds and behavior.
